About

Born on a Good Friday in leafy Surrey to Scouser and a Manc confusion was bound to ensue.  A sturdy Catholic education sealed the deal. After various terrible jobs in the home counties and London including PR, sitting on my own answering a phone whilst reading Pride and Prejudice for the fifth time and shredding documents for the MOD.  I met the love of my love at a Prisoner Cell Block H night in Derby, which after spending the previous three weeks in Italy seemed even more surreal.  I was soon esconced in the midlands, twenty-four years later we still vary from being proud to vaguely embarrassed when people ask us how we met!

I decided I had, had quite enough of wearing pencil skirts and started my own business.  I followed my mother into antiques and then started a market stall, which swiftly developed into selling records and music media and memorabilia.  I was soon joined by my partner who when she finished her degree decided she would like to sell books and video games.

Despite several attempts from various ne’er do wells to stop our progress we soon had a shop then two shops in Nuneaton.  This culminated in the height of the business in having twenty five staff on the rota at any given time.  Success gave us the opportunity to travel which we did with relish.  Mainly in America having racked up over three years of our time traveling far and wide.

Eventually, downloads came, swiftly followed by mail order domination and the final nail in the coffin the recession.  So back to basics we descaled, de-cluttered and attempted to de-retail and are now mail ordering and planning our next assault.

I have always enjoyed writing, a pleasure bestowed on me by my father who was a famous advertising man and also had some success as a writer and playwright.

This blog is my musings, some nostalgic, some tongue in cheek and some a bit ranting, but never knowingly undersold I hope you enjoy.

Hi, my name is Marc Brindley from 2 Haunted Venues. We are a paranormal investigation group that are very well known in Hinckley. We have been investigating various locations around the country from manor houses to castles for years. I have just read a blog about the paranormal occurrences that you guys have experienced over time. Is there a possibility we might be able to investigate 62 Queens Road to see for ourselves? We have night vision cameras and many technical equipment and I am the medium of the group. If there is anything there and you want it gone I can help you. If this is an option then please let me know. We are very respectful and will not release any details unless you are happy for us to do so. If the buildings are haunted we will find out and get that evidence. Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon 🙂

Would welcome the opportunity to ask a couple of questions regarding your former premises in Queen Street – if you go to my website http://www.poultonsmith.co.uk there is a link to email me. Look forward to hearing from you.
